The state of New York relies on counties and municipalities to act as Authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ). These local government officials are the final authority on questions in a particular area (or jurisdiction) regarding elevator safety and elevator code.
For the purpose of this page, we have provided the information of New York City's Building Codes department that oversees elevator code and safety in NYC.
