Since 1995, the West Virginia Division of Labor has been dedicated to inspecting elevators and escalators to ensure user safety. In 2004, the state inspection program was privatized, and inspections are now carried out by approved private inspectors. Despite this shift, the Division of Labor continues to play a critical role by overseeing the program, addressing code questions, and conducting quality control inspections.

This ongoing oversight ensures that all conveyance systems adhere to rigorous safety standards and operational guidelines.

Additionally, the Division provides support to both private inspectors and the public, ensuring that any issues or concerns related to elevator and escalator safety are promptly addressed, thus maintaining a high level of trust and reliability in the state's safety protocols.
